The Algarve has some of the finest golf courses in the world and has certainly become a golfers paradise! The region has a world wide reputation for golf excellence and with over 30 courses, with more planned, there is plenty of choice for any level of player.
The all year round sunshine and mild weather, even in the winter, makes playing golf in the Algarve an absolute pleasure!

The Western Algarve has always been the favourite location for the golfing circuit, however, if you would like to escape the crowds, the Eastern Algarve is also perfect for golf. It is less developed and much less crowded. Within a 20km radius, there are 6 courses to choose from, all within a 15 minutes drive. These courses are in areas of natural beauty and are free from development of fairway-lining villas.
1. Quinta da Ria: A lovely golf course built on a cliff overlooking the Ria Formosa Natural Park, designed by Rocky Roquemore. Although not as technically difficult as its sister course next door, it is still ranked in the top 10 courses in Portugal with 18 Holes, Par 72 and 6,016m.
2. Quinta de Cima: The new sister course next to Quinta da Ria. This is a must-play course for any golfer staying in the Algarve. Ranked as one of the top 3 courses in Portugal by the Peugeot guide with 18 Holes, Par 72 and 6,236m.
3. Benamar Golf: A very friendly and welcoming club. A good choice for groups of higher handicappers, with wide fairways and not too many hazards. Water does, however, come into play on a few holes. Designed by Sir Henry Cotton, it has 18 Holes, Par 71 and 5,500m.
4. Castro Marim Golf: This Golf Course was designed by Terry Murray and has 27 Holes. It has 3 different 9 Holes courses, all with different characteristics and all with beautiful views of the Guadiana River and Spain.
5. Quinta do Vale: This 18 Hole Golf Course was specially designed by the famous player Severiano Ballesteros, considered European player of the century. Opened in 2008, near the Spanish border, it was designed to attract golfers of all levels and will be a strong candidate for the holding of important international championships.
6. Monte Rei: This prestigious 18 Holes Golf Course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, offers the height of golfing luxury. This is a stunning layout, with first class service. Although a costly experience, this is a real treat for golfing fanatics who whish to experience a little of the high life. It is already ranked in the Top 20 in Europe and Top 100 in the world by Golf Digest USA. The only Portuguese course to achieve this ranking.
